Sentinel the scorpion comes from Africa and was provided by
a herpetologist from Joplin, Missouri. Scorpions are arachnids
and are classified as such because they have two body parts
and eight legs, instead of insects with three body segments
and six legs. Scorpions are the only arthropods that give live
birth and some species may be pregnant for an astounding 18
months before they have their young.
Jessa
got lucky with this specimen. She received it frozen and was
able to pin and pose him according to her vision. This painting
is a work in progress exhibited in the collection and is still
2 to 3 weeks away from completion. A bright blue background
in this painting was done in pursuit a more contemporary feel
as the other paintings have darker or neutral backgrounds giving
them a classical renaissance look. |
