The
First Few Pages
|
On
a gentle fall day near a farm in Wichita, Kansas, a mother
praying mantis laid her egg case called an ootheca on
a low branch of an old oak tree.
|
|
The
praying mantis eggs withstood the bitter wind and snow
of the long cold winter in the comfortable hard foam ootheca.
|
|
Finally spring had come, and first born out of the ootheca
came a teeny-tiny mantis named Mildred with 113 of her brothers
and sisters. Some of whom she ate. Mildred thought whooo…..me?
